A Brazoria County woman has sued her former employer, alleging violation of the Civil Rights Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Monical L. Young Williams of Brazoria County filed a lawsuit Feb. 12 in the Galveston Division of the Southern District of Texas against the Dow Chemical Company, of Delaware, alleging discrimination and wrongful termination for her pregnancy.
According to complaint, Williams, hired by Dow at its Freeport plant in April 2013, was terminated in November 2013, due to restrictions imposed by her pregnancy. The type of tasks and the amount of lifting she was authorized to do were in dispute, the suit states, and Williams approached a supervisor and then a union representative, in order to ascertain her job security.
The suit states Williams was terminated because of her gender and pregnancy and for complaining of discrimination for a temporary disability.
Williams seeks lost wages and benefits, back and front pay, compensation for distress, attorney and witness fees, and court costs. She is representing herself.
