With two Jefferson County elected officials stepping down, Gov. Rick Perry announced Monday his appointments to fill the vacancies.
For the vacancy on the Jefferson County 252nd District Court, which predominantly handles criminal cases, Perry appointed Lindsey Scott. Scott is currently an assistant criminal district attorney.
She is taking the bench after Judge Layne Walker stepped down to go into private practice.
Scott
She is a resident of Nederland, and is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Jefferson County Bar Association and the Texas District and County Attorneys Association and is secretary of the Jefferson County Young Lawyers Association Board of Directors.
A graduate of Texas A&M University, she received her law degree from the South Texas College of Law in Houston.
Scott’s move is not the only shake up at the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.
The man at the top, District Attorney Tom Maness, has retired after 27 years.
Crenshaw
In his spot, Perry appointed Cory Crenshaw, an assistant U. S. attorney for the Eastern District of Texas.
Crenshaw graduated from Baylor University and received his law degree from Texas Tech University in 2004.
He was a former assistant district attorney for Brazos County and became an assistant U.S. Attorney in McAllen in 2010.
Both Scott and Crenshaw will have their terms expire after the general election in November.
Bob Wortham, currently judge of the 58th District Court, and Perry Thomas, a long-time prosecutor for the DA’s office, have announced their candidacy for the District Attorney’s office post.
